Shortly after we nestled in our tents for the night about 7:30pm, thunder began to surround us. We double checked our tent stakes and awaited the inevitable. It stormed from about 8:30pm-10:00pm. High winds and the storm was howling... At one point we heard "popping" noises thinking our stakes were coming out, but it was hail. 2" hail was reported in Boone which was only 10-15 miles away from where we were.
During the storm, I just laid there staring out the tent window. I was so tired, but the anticipation of sirens and "Seek shelter!" from a police megaphone, kept me getting some zzzz's.
No "seek shelter" was issued and the storm passed around 10:00pm. We were all safe and everyone stayed dry.
The storm did bring in a cold front and helped our biking day today with providing clouds and dropping temps to 69.
